Because of rising fuel prices and the resulting increase in ethanol production, there has been a domino affect in many sectors of the economy. For example, the increase in corn prices has lead to an increase in feed prices, and thus meat prices at the market. The same is true for a variety of products derived from corn. While this is good for corn growers, that is about the limit of the beneficiary, with the exception of the subsidized ethanol producers.
We believe that subsidies result in dependence, and dependence results in stagnated innovation, a victim and entitlement mentality, and loss of motivation to move beyond the norm. I believe many of Montanas farmers and rancher in their heart are opposed to subsidies, but fear has kept them following the status quo, and when they are made available are not going to turn them down. Let us not let fear and dependency rule our lives. Let us put our trust in the Lord and seek His direction.
I believe that governments help, not handouts, in developing new/expanded markets is one key to maintaining a healthy and thriving agricultural economy. I grew up on a small ranch/tree farm and understand the dilemmas that the agricultural community has faced. I am convinced that depending on the governments intervention will eventually lead to even dire consequences. It is kind of like getting free drugs. Once you start it is hard to stop, but if you dont, you get addicted and there is a heavy price to pay. I believe that Montanas agriculture community working with the government and praying will achieve much greater prosperity than ever before. We can go before the Lord and He will show us the answers. He is waiting for us to look to Him as a people. Following Him, we will establish a sure foundation that will hold firm. Are you ready to join with us to take Montanas agricultural industry to new heights... to the place that God has destined it?
