Thank you for taking some time to inform yourself a bit about Bill and Steve. We both are passionate about our faith in Jesus Christ, and have personally seen Him powerfully touch thousands of lives in many different ways! He has Blessed us with many wonderful gifts to use to bring transformation to the world around us. In our own efforts and abilities it would have been impossible to accomplish a fraction of what He has done through us. While God has been using us internationally to bring hope, healing and prosperity, he is calling us to use the same gifts and abilities for the people of Montana. God is looking for a people who will build the foundation of all they do on the Lordship of Jesus Christ, without being ashamed or embarrassed about it. For a people that will put Jesus at the forefront of all we do, not in our back pockets, to be turned to when convenient, politically correct, or in desperation.
We firmly believe that most Montanans are such a people and He is calling us to be examples of mighty men and women of God, firmly established in our relationship with Him and willing to risk looking foolish for His Glory and for the greater benefit of the people of Montana. He has a plan and a purpose for Montana and the people of Montana to be an example for other states and nations. For those of you who are unable to yet believe or know of His loving kindness, Blessings and Promises, I want you to know that we truly love you every bit as much as those we call brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, and desire to see you equally blessed.
I believe the greatest single obstacle standing in the way of the people of Montana walking in the greatness of the destiny that God has for us and our state, is the same one that stands in the way of other states and nations. Basically, it is an inwardly focusing attitude rather than one of loving God and our neighbor. The focus on self gratification has led to a loss of moral values and a proliferation of an entitlement and victim mentality.
I encourage you, my fellow Montanans to recognize the greatness that God placed within you. Just remember that the greatness is from Him and not of our own doing. Each one of us can make an incredible different for good in this state and beyond. Don’t leave it up to someone else to do it for you or to provide for you what you are capable of yourself. Remember to that the greatest sense of fulfillment comes when you help others in worse need than yourself. Be motivated to walk in the fullness of who God created you to be and doing what He created you to do. You have the ability within you and if you add God to the mix you will be able to do beyond your greatest dreams. I can certainly tell you this without God I would never even have dreamed of running for Governor much less actually do it. God has transformed me from a shy, self-conscious, insecure individual to one full of confidence and courage and dreams for my family and the people of this world that are impossible in the natural.
I realize some may want to argue with us about our faith in God. But in our eyes it is not a debatable topic. In all honesty we have seen thousands of miracles and signs and wonders; I have personally been in about a dozen or more situations where my physical well being has been, from a worldly view point, in great risk of being seriously harmed, and seen God’s miraculous protection. We have seen God move so powerfully that Islamic fundamentalist terrorists who at one time would have gladly killed us are now our friends. God is real, He is alive and He is looking for a people who intimately know Him and will walk in His ways not just talk His ways. The people of Montana can be that people, you can be one of those people.
Many of you likely are aware of the story in the Bible that talks about the two houses, on that was build on sand and one that was built on the rock. As a state Montana can look like everything is fine and going well, but if it is built on sand, when the wind and the rain come the sand wash away and the house fall.
We need to make sure that Montana is built on the rock. There is only one rock - Jesus Christ! The underpinning of everything we do in Montana needs to be Jesus Christ. I completely understand the issue of separation of church and state. I don’t agree with some rulings, and I would surely work to change them. In reality there are few things that we can do keeping Jesus at the forefront. Jesus is a part of who we are. If you took Him out of me I would not be me, Christ in me the hope of Glory is truly a part of who I am. There is no law that denies us from being who we are. We can be like Jesus in many ways and often never even use words.
It is clear that our forefathers built this nation and this state on the rock of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately a force has been at working chipping away that rock and replacing it with sand, while working to convince us that the sand is as good as the rock, and that to disagree is being a hypocrite of our faith. We need to recognize sand for sand and work to remove it and replace the rock. If we do not the house will surly one day fall. We can no longer put that day off, there are to many people in pain and suffering, and it will only get worse if we only stick our head in the sand!
We believe that it is easy demonstrate true Christianity, by giving of ourselves for the greater good of the people. We would not just lead we would serve. One of the greatest way to show true love is to serve even the unlovable. I will give you an example from my last ministry trip to Peru in February. At the meetings we had, 50-2000 people, even though we were the guests, we involved ourselves in even the tasks of preparing the food, serving it, cleaning up afterwards, etc.
God has told me that even as I am in public, more so should I be in private. He often times will have me clean up messes in public rest rooms. I try to make sure I even obey seemingly minor rules, like not going through express check out lines if I have to many items, or making excuses to go 10 or 5 or 2 miles an hour over the speed limit. Am I legalistic about it? No, but my heart is to be completely obedient. Am I perfect? No. I still fall short of the Glory of God and sin. But my heart is not to sin and my goal is to be like Jesus, and I constantly ask God to help me.
What do we say to those who disagree with us about our faith and maybe think that because we are so adamant about the fact there is no other way that we are bigots or worse? I will explain it with an analogy: I believe that drinking water brings life, and that drinking poison brings death. If I were to say for the sake of peace, that drinking either is just as good, it would show that I really did not care that much about you. Or lets says I agreed that it was o.k. to drink the poison as long as you still drank the water. You would still die, and I would surely not have been demonstrating love, if I really believed the only way you can live is if you drink just the water. Well I really believe the only way to eternal life is through Jesus Christ, if I compromised for any reason, it would mean that I really do not value your life, that as much as I may have said I loved you it was not true, because agreeing to anything else would mean that your death was an acceptable alternative to me.
Some of you might disagree with me about a particular belief: homosexuality, abortion, etc. I will tell you that I love you and am willing to give my life for you. You may think that if I loved you I would accept what you believe. Let me use another example to show you why that is not true. My children, as they were growing up have told lies. I believe that it is wrong to lie and I told them so and taught them it is wrong to lie. I did not change my belief system so I would not have conflict with them or so they would not think I did not love them. I do not think there is anyone who does not have people in their lives that they love and do not disagree about certain things. To me a person who lies is no different than a person who does anything else I believe is a sin.
There are many issue to be addressed in Montana of varying degrees of importance. But I assure you that if every one of them is properly addressed, but the moral and social aspect of our state continues to deteriorate the house will surely fall. I believe now is the time for dramatic change and I believe God will back us, because the cry in His heart for us is loud and compelling. Please join with Steve and I in our vision for making Montana a shining light to this nation and other nations. "All things are possible through Christ Jesus who strengthens us"!
God Bless you abundantly!!!
Bill
P.S. My first unofficial act as governor would be to establish a 24/7 prayer and worship network. I know without a doubt that there are enough passionate Christians in Montana (and elsewhere) that would be glad to pray on a regular basis. I believe there are enough that we could have 24/7 prayer and worship in the capital. I believe that are many in the state legislature that would be willing to give of their free time to come together and pray on a regular basis also.
